Authentic Product Pick: Madécasse Chocolate and Vanilla Extract

Authentic Product Pick Madecasse

Are you a chocolate lover? Got a constant sweet tooth? Trust me…you’ve never experienced chocolate until you’ve tried Madécasse Madagascar chocolate (pronounced mah-day-kas). I had one bite and was hooked!

Based in Brooklyn, Madécasse was founded in 2008 by a group of former Peace Corps volunteers. When they were living in Madagascar, they came to understand why Africa remains the poorest continent in the world; it supplies 70% of the world’s cocoa but 0% of its chocolate. This is what inspired them to create Madécasse, the only company to produce high quality bean-to-bar, hand-wrapped chocolate and vanilla products on the continent of Africa. The cocoa they use is grown on Madagascar by local farmers. It’s genetically pure and Madécasse works to preserve the integrity of the forests in which the beans are grown. By providing equipment, training, and producing the entire product locally, Madécasse is able to provide 100% of production costs to the people of Madagascar. How cool is that?

I recently had the pleasure of trying out a few flavors of their delicious chocolate bars. My favorite? The Toasted Coconut flavor. Yum! It combines the mellow, smooth chocolate flavor with the tropical taste of coconut. It also has crunchy flakes of real toasted coconut throughout the bar. If you are a fan of mint, be sure to try out their Peppermint flavor. This chocolate bar has 63% dark chocolate with mint and a touch nutmeg. It’s perfect for the upcoming holiday season!

Not only does Madécasse make delicious chocolate, they make an amazing vanilla extract as well! They use premium-grade vanilla beans sourced from local farmers in the northeast forests of Africa. These beans are made into richly flavored, high quality extract, just miles from where they are grown. You can use the vanilla extract in a variety of recipes, like the one for Madécasse Chocolate Avocado Pudding that I’ve included below.
