Smoothie of the Day: Tropical Kiwi Chia Smoothie

This is a delicious and colorful smoothie that will not only provide you with many of the nutrients needed to stay healthy, but it will give you a nice lift of energy naturally! There are an abundance of health-promoting carotenoids and flavonoids found in kiwi which provides powerful antioxidant protection against the oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Kiwi is a great source of potassium and magnesium, two minerals that are important in regulating blood sugar. It is also a good source of copper and manganese which are cofactors in a powerful antioxidant. The chia seeds give this smoothie a nice boost of protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Colorful Kiwi Smoothie

  • 3 kiwifruit
  • 2/3 C plain yogurt
  • 1-2 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 small mango
  • 2 Tbsp orange juice
  • 1 C fresh raspberries
  • 1-2 tsp honey (optional)
Peel and roughly chop the kiwi. Put it in a blender and process until smooth. Then spoon it into 2 tall glasses. Top each glass with yogurt, spreading the yogurt to the side of the glasses. Peel the mango and remove the pit. Roughly chop the flesh and add it to blender with orange juice. Process until smooth. Spoon it into the glasses and top with a layer of yogurt. Put the raspberries in the blender and process briefly, then push the puree through a strainer to extract seeds. Add honey if you wish to sweeten it up. Spoon the raspberry puree into the glasses and serve.
